Jonathan McCarroll, 23, a black man, was shot in the head in the 6800 block of S. 11th Ave. in the Crenshaw District and died at 9:58 a.m. Friday, April 6. Det. Matt Mahoney of the LAPD’s 77th Street Division said that McCarroll’s killer or killers drove up, got out, and chased him. He ran for his life, and made it half a block before the bullet struck him and he fell.

His cousin Nyshia Odom, from the Alabama branch of his family, wrote these words to the Homicide Report: ‘Johnny was loved by us all. He and my baby sister grew up together, it is like losing a brother more than a cousin. No matter what took place, nor the reason, there is never anything that one has done that is so bad that it costs them their lives...He will be missed dearly.’
