Danny Horn, 20, a young black man, was shot in the head in a double homicide that also killed Malone Scales, 20, listed below. The two young black men were found dead in an alley between 84th Street and 84th Place off Avalon Boulevard in South-Central Los Angeles-Eastside on June 25, in LAPD’s 77th Street Division. Horn’s time of death was listed as 1:03 a.m. Tuesday, June 26. The suspect, a 16-year-old black youth, has been arrested and charged with murder.

In a reversal, police found the suspect before they discovered murdered Horn and Scales.

LAPD Det. John Radtke gave this account:

Two LAPD 77th Street Division gang officers, Thomas Willers and Nick Hartman, were patrolling when they spotted the youth driving a car. The teenager hit the gas, the officers went into pursuit. They chased the fleeing car down an alley, where it crashed. The teenager ran. The officers ran after him. As he fled, the teenager flung a gun--which discharged as it hit--and stripped off his clothes, which were stained with blood. The officers caught him by the time he reached his house.

Police then went back to inspect the crashed car in the alley. There was blood and brain matter inside. They searched they area, and found the bodies of Horn and Scales in another nearby alley, where they appeared to have been pushed out of the car after being shot by the alleged teenage assailant.
