Jeffrey Alvarado, 18, a Latino man, was shot and killed at 512 S. Hoefner Ave. in East Los Angeles just after midnight Saturday, May 3. According Deputy Rick Pedroza of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, Alvarado was attending a ‘flier party’ when someone pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at the crowd. Alvarado was hit in the upper torso and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Two other people were wounded and were taken to hospitals, where they are recovering. Authorities said the motive for the shooting is still unknown.
