Alexander Neal, 20, a black man, was shot and killed during a home-invasion robbery in the 24300 block of Burbank Boulevard in Woodland Hills about 2:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1.

According to a Los Angeles Police Department statement, the shooting occurred when three armed men kicked down the front door of a family home. ‘A family member in another part of the house was alerted by the intrusion and saw the suspects confronting his family,’ the statement said.

Authorities said the man armed himself and confronted the intruders. The three men and the family member exchanged gunfire. Police said Neal was struck several times and died at the scene. The two other men ran from the house, got into a silver sedan and sped east on Burbank Boulevard. Police described the outstanding suspects as two black men in their 20s. Police did not say whether any other family members were injured.
