Melvin James Comeaux Jr., 28, a black man, was shot several times at 94th Place and Normandie Avenue about 8:40 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24. He was taken to a hospital. After surgery, he remained on life support for a week, authorities said. Comeaux died from his wounds Sunday, Aug. 31.

Los Angeles Police Department officials said a black man fired several shots in Comeaux’s direction without cause. Authorities said the man fled into an alley between 94th Street and 94th Place.
