Opinion: Department of who cares?

Tommy Thompson briefly ran for president, as you may recall. And if you don’t, we can easily understand --- his bid for the Republican presidential nomination began as a pipe dream, became an embarrassment at times and ended with little notice in August.

Thompson, though, plans to briefly resurface on the political radar later this month, announcing an endorsement of one of the remaining GOP contenders.

According to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel story, the former Wisconsin governor ‘has been heavily courted by fellow Republicans who want his backing.’

Which raises the obvious question: Why?
