Opinion: Rudy amends Ronald’s commandment

Despite the continuing worshipful references and quotations and claims by candidates to follow in his political footsteps, President Ronald Reagan is not a god.

But he did write a party commandment. He called it the 11th Commandment: ‘Thou shalt not speak ill of other Republicans.’

The Times’ Joe Mathews was covering the Club for Growth meeting in Washington this week and heard former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, the national Republican frontrunner, utter an amendment to the commandment.

Answering an audience member’s question about Mitt Romney’s healthcare plan, Giuliani said, ‘Thou shalt not speak ill of other Republicans -- unless they attack me first.’
