Celebrities and owners and executives of sports franchises chipped in $273,000 to John McCain and various Republican campaign committees in the past quarter.

Hollywood types who gave McCain the maximum $2,300 include Kelsey Grammer, Tom Selleck and his wife, Jillie Mack Selleck. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer also gave $5,000 to a joint fundraising committee on McCain’s behalf.

Here are some of the larger donations unearthed by The Times’ Dan Morain, whose main McCain fundraising story is available here:

Michael and William Bidwell, owners of McCain’s home-state Arizona Cardinals football team, each gave $50,000. Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys gave $28,500, and George Steinbrenner of the New York Yankees gave $15,000. George’s son, Harold Steinbrenner, gave $12,300.

Stockton developer Alex Spanos owns the San Diego Chargers. He and his family contributed at least $85,950 to McCain and the GOP committees.

Fellow Arizona resident Dan Quayle gave $20,000 to a McCain joint fundraising committee.
