Well, we had all that speculation about the political future of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as John McCain’s VP (nope) or a Republican Senate candidate from California (we’ll see).

But now there’s something completely new.

Our blogging buddy Johanna Neuman over at Countdown to Crawford reports that Rice, once a concert pianist, may now be in line to become president of the San Francisco 49ers.

It makes sense. She loves the Bay Area and is a huge National Football League fan, once allowing as how her dream job would be NFL commissioner, a position which is taken at the moment by Roger Goodell. But what better way to break into that rich ol’ man’s club than as head of a team?

Conflicting reports on the team’s receptivity. Rice has been saying she intends to return to Stanford University in Palo Alto, where she used to be provost until she took leave to become foreign affairs advisor to then Texas Gov. George W. Bush.

Johanna has the full story right here.
