Opinion: Yes, Californians certainly did show Barack Obama the money

With a final $8.4-million haul from California, Barack Obama vacuumed a grand total of $95.6 million from the Golden State in donations of more than $200.

That’s almost 13% of the record-setting $741 million that Obama raised for his presidential campaign, according to his post-election filing with the Federal Election Commission.

Obama undoubtedly collected far more than $95.6 million from California. But the commission does not require candidates to publicly identify donors of $200 or less.

The $95.6 million in itemized donations represents 23% of all money that Obama collected in increments of more than $200.

The President-elect’s take from California was 2 1/2 times more than the $35 million he collected from his home state of Illinois. New York was the second-largest source of Obama’s money, at $58.2 million.

John McCain raised $24.3 million from Californians.
