Opinion: Watching in L.A.: Hundreds gather at Nokia Plaza

In Los Angeles, more than 1,000 people converged at L.A. Live near downtown to watch 15 screens set up over Nokia Plaza to view the swearing in of the first African American U.S. president. Here’s more from the Ticket’s sister blog, L.A. Now:

The earliest spectators began arriving at 4:15 a.m. Vendors sold flags, Obama T-shirts and even earrings. Laura Reinbold, 45, was taping the inauguration at her home two blocks away but wanted to be with others during this historic moment, she said. The retired secretary wore an Obama shirt that said, ‘Change.’ ‘Oh, my gosh,’ she said as she patted her heart.
