5:55 p.m.: CNN seems to have landed on a formulaic way to describe why Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal was chosen to give the Republican response to this evening’s speech to a joint session of Congress. Republicans, said Candy Crowley in a phrase echoed by others on the cable network, must show they are not ‘a party of rich, old white guys.’ Jindal is young (37) and Indian American. We haven’t seen his financials, so we can’t speak to whether he is rich or not. We’ll check into that....
