The longest active prep football streak (and second-longest ever) ended Saturday night in the Ohio vs. USA event, as Charlotte (N.C.) Independence lost 41-34 in overtime to Cincinnati (Ohio) Elder at the University of Cincinnati.

Independence had won 109 consecutive games dating back to the 2000 season, but this was the first time during that run they played a team outside the Carolinas. The Patriots’ streak ranks second only to Concord De La Salle (151) all-time.

The longest active winning streak now belongs to Batesville (Miss.) South Panola, which opened the 2007 season Friday by winning its 61st consecutive game. Oaks Christian, which won its Southern Section-record 47th straight game Friday, has the fifth-longest active streak in the country.
