Well, yes, because Harvard-Westlake senior Ryan Thacher, who owned the junior-tennis circuit in Southern California last year, is making similar waves in the U.S. Open junior tournament.

In a second-round match Wednesday, the 17-year-old Thacher upended seventh-seeded Stephane Piro of France, 6-4, 6-3, in a battle of left-handers.

Guess Piro has some idea of how other opponents felt as they fell to Thacher in 46 consecutive matches between last October and April.

With the victory, Thacher, the U.S. Tennis Assn. National Hardcourt Championships’ boys’ 18 division runner-up last month, earned a third-round match-up with Daniel Evans of Great Britain.

Thacher just finished that one, losing, 6-4, 7-6 (3), at the U.S. Open Tennis Center.
