Los Angeles got an up-close and sometimes painful look at the difference between a 3A team and a 4A team Friday.

By halftime, Banning (the 4A team) had scored six touchdowns in six possessions to build a 42-6 lead on its way to a 56-6 victory.

It seemed as if every time you turned around, there was another Los Angeles player doubled over or limping off his home field. Fortunately, most of the problems were only cramps.

Among the memorable lines uttered by former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, one always comes to mind when you see a mismatch like this: ‘Everybody’s got plans until they get hit.’

When Banning was on offense, Los Angeles looked as if it were being washed away by a tsunami, especially when junior tailback Josh Limosnero carried the ball. He had 131 yards and three touchdowns in seven carries. When the Romans had the ball, it appeared as if they were running into a brick wall.

But the crusher? One of the Banning coaches noted, ‘We’re really still a year or two away. We only have eight seniors. Most of the guys touching the ball today were sophomores.’

Hopefully for the Romans, they will be off the Pilots’ schedule before then.
