Redlands East Valley players just did the Haka dance in front of Riverside North players, who were huddled under one of the goal posts.

North’s players then started skipping toward REV and pounding their chests.

I was standing about 30 feet away with Southern Section Commissioner Jim Staunton and asst. Commissioner Rob Wigod and was thinking, ‘Boy, I hope I don’t have to protect these guys.’ (By the way, they both like the blog.)

I introduced myself to REV Coach Kurt Bruich, whom I had only met on the phone, and he confirmed that USC-bound receiver Chris Polk will be playing running back this fall because of inexperience at both quarterback and running back (Polk had Ronnie Fouch, now at Washington, throwing to him last season). If Polk gets injured, Bruich said he will be forced to go to a five-wide receiver set.
