Redlands East Valley REVed its engine at the right time tonight and peeled away with a 21-20 victory at Riverside College.

Just when it appeared No. 8 Riverside North was putting the finishing touches on its 15th straight victory, the No. 23 Wildcats made a stand on defense and then moved the ball 65 yards in exactly four minutes to score the winning touchdown.

The play that might be remembered for a long time by REV fans was a 32-yard touchdown pass play from sophomore quarterback Tyler Shreve to senior halfback Jonathan Raedel, who ran a drag over the middle, caught the ball at the 22 and outraced the defense to the end zone with 1:10 left in the game. REV made the point after and, for once, a prevent defense did its job.

The Wildcats then celebrated like it was a game played in December. In fact, they kind of ticked off REV Coach Kurt Bruich, who could be overheard telling his players after the game, ‘You guys were jumping around like a bunch of idiots.’

North had the better athletes, but it was the kicking game that did in the Huskies. Apparently, their returning kicker never showed up this season. Those that were on the field Friday botched the hold on the first attempt, but scrambled for the two-point conversion. They missed the point-after on the second touchdown, then scrapped the idea all together after the third touchdown, even though it would have given them a seven-point lead. North failed on its two-point try, leaving them in position to get beat by a touchdown and extra point.
