Carson running back Jack Sula, who sustained a concussion in last Friday’s 14-0 loss to Grandview (Colo.), will probably be held out of this week’s game at Redlands and possibly next week against Long Beach Poly at Veterans Stadium, Coach Mike Christensen said.

‘We’ll examine him one more time to make sure, but right now I doubt he’ll play on Friday even though he wants to,’ Christensen said. ‘His health is more important.’

Sula was hurt after catching a screen pass. When he turned to run upfield with the ball, the defender was right there to tackle him. Sula didn’t see him until the hit was delivered.

‘It was a clean shot. The guy caught him just right, just below the helmet,’ Christensen said. ‘It had to be a heck of a shot to get Jack out of there.’

Christensen said Sula managed to sneak back on the field Friday to resume playing. ‘We had to stop the game and get him back out of there.’

The remainder of Carson’s nonleague schedule has no breathers. After Redlands and Poly, the Colts will play Harvard-Westlake and Bishop Amat. But Christensen said he will resist the urge to rush Sula back on the field.

‘We’ll have to try and get better without him right now,’ he said.
