Nice showing by the Coachella Valley last weekend. Well, except for Coachella Valley, which should have thought twice before scheduling Los Alamitos.

Much to my surprise, La Quinta had a relatively easy time beating the speedier Rancho Cucamonga, 21-7, at Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos. Palm Desert didn’t play near its best against visiting Hesperia Sultana but still emerged with a 36-22 victory. Probably the biggest shock was how Palm Springs took apart host Hemet, 55-9.

Cathedral City defeated Beaumont, 34-27, and Indio knocked off Brawley, 25-20 (I couldn’t find any reports, reporter must have got lost in the desert), giving the Desert Valley League five wins in six games last weekend.

Gene Autry would have been proud.
