An interesting intersectional game is scheduled Friday night at the University of Redlands. City Section power Carson is heading east for the first time to take on Redlands, one of the Inland Empire’s most successful programs.

Both teams lost their openers, so they should be salivating for that first victory.

Redlands, in rebuilding mode after losing all but four starters from last season’s 12-1 team, lost a tight game to No. 23 Vista Murrieta, 21-14, two weeks ago, then was idle last week, when it rested and prepared for Carson.

The Colts were ranked No. 1 by the Daily Breeze heading into their season opener last weekend, but lost, 14-0, to visiting Grandview, Colo. Carson, now ranked No. 3 in the South Bay, was without suspended quarterback Dominique Blackman and running back Jack Sula was knocked out early with a concussion.

If those guys don’t play, I think Redlands wins by a touchdown. If Sula comes back, he might be enough to squeeze out a one-point victory. If Blackman emerges from his doghouse, Carson could roll by 21.
