The milk bucket is back at Lakewood.

After consecutive losses to La Costa Canyon and Tesoro, the Lancers (1-2) slammed Mayfair(1-2) to win the teams’ annual ‘Milk Bucket Game,’ 40-3, and take back the coveted perpetual trophy, an old metal bucket mounted on a wooden frame.

Lakewood got 136 yards and two touchdowns in 18 carries by junior running back Alex Fletcher, and he also caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Jesse Scroggins as the Lancers laid claim to the spoils of victory in the game for the ninth time in 13 years.

The result made up for the Lancers’ 42-41 double-overtime loss to Mayfair in last year’s big game.

Chad Prusha kicked a 30-yard field goal for Mayfair’s only points in the game, which, no doubt, left, well, a sour taste in the Monsoons’ mouths.
