It’s that time of the weekend and wow! There’s lots to talk about.

But first, let me give a shutout to the Register’s Miguel Melendez by giving props to his alma mater Alhambra for beating Temple City, 47-0. The running back duo of Anthony Brown and Shawn ‘Dushine’ Smith combined for 292 yards and four touchdowns. Alhambra outgained TC 424 to 128.

There were some surprising scores and some impressive stats, so let’s not waste anymore time and get to it.

First Down: Bryce Mahmud-McBride. I know what some of you are saying, ‘dude, you talked about him all week.’ Well, for good reason. Bryce rushed for 289 yards and four touchdowns in Los Altos’ 39-7 win against visiting Long Beach Wilson. The senior running back, currently being recruited by Boise State, San Diego State and Cal, scored on runs of 50, 20, 50 and 55 yards (his best TD is shown at the 1:58 mark in the highlights below). He also had an interception in the end zone to prevent LBW from scoring. The Conquerors (2-0) have a tougher challenge next week when they travel to La Verne to play Damien (2-1).

Second Down: Bishop Amat. The Lancers are giving up an average of 40 points per game and are off to an 0-3 start after last night’s 42-11 loss to Hart. I don’t know if any team in the SGV would be above .500 after playing the schedule Amat has, but that’s probably why they didn’t play that schedule. The Lancers still have #2 Notre Dame, #4 Crespi, and Loyola left on their schedule. If they match last year’s 5-5 record, this season will be, in my opinion, a success. And a real shock also.

Third Down: The Mayor’s Perpetual Trophy. Glendora (2-0) at Charter Oak (1-1) next week. The Chargers rebounded from their Week 1 loss by shutting out La Mirada, 27-0. The Tartans have been impressive so far this season, first with a 51-6 stomping of Covina and then with a 31-13 win against Etiwanda. Add to that the trophy and the game should be a good one, right? ‘It’s going to be a dog fight,’ Charter Oak QB Chris Allen said. Last year Glendora won 14-7. Do you guys think I should check this game out?

Punt: ‘There is not much you can tell them. Life’s not fair,’ Maranatha Coah Joel Murphy said following a game in which his starting and backup quarterbacks suffered knee injuries in the first quarter of a 56-14 loss.

Also, what’s up with South Hills? 31-6 loss to La Habra ... what was that?

Punt 2: ‘We were outcoached and outplayed in every phase of the game. We need to find out who we are,’ South Hills Coach Steve Bogan talking to the WDN’s Roger Murray. The Huskies host Claremont (0-2) next week.

In true T.J. Simers mode. Today’s last word belongs to Tartan Fan of Glendora:

Jaime, Top rated team in the SGV is Glendora...check out CalPreps. You need to check out this team, they look like a college team and may be about to have a monster year.

We’ll see. I still think Los Altos is the top dog in the SGV right now. Both teams play Damien and Charter Oak during their seasons, so they’ll provide the perfect tiebreaker in case of a tie.
