One has to be careful with Reseda. The Regents got off to a quick start last year, going 5-0 in nonleague games, but regressed to a 1-3 record in Valley Mission League play and finished 6-4 overall.

This season may have more promise, however, if running back Giovannie Dixon continues along his current path of productivity. In two games, both Regent wins, Dixon has rushed for 442 yards and three touchdowns. He is averaging 9.61 yards a carry. That’s a slightly higher average than Dixon had last year, when he ran for for 1,261 yards and averaged 9.34 yards a carry.

According to the Los Angeles Daily News, Dixon has run for 200 or more yards three times in his last nine games. That would include the 249 yards he amassed against South Gate in the 2007 season opener.

‘The scary part is our offensive line is not really developed yet,’ Coach Alonso Arreola said. ‘We only have one returning starter, John Pally, and he only played four games last year. So the line has yet to jell. Giovannie is doing this with their help, but he’s also doing a lot on his own.’

Arreola said the 5-11, 190-pound Dixon prepared for the uncertainty of the line with vigorous summer workouts. ‘He dedicated himself in the weight room and added 10 pounds of muscle. He’s faster and stronger this year.’

Dixon, a senior, currently has the recruiting interest of San Diego State, New Mexico State, Nevada, and both Washington and Washington State, according to Arreola.
