Some more Orange County things that jumped out at me in Week 2:

  • Junior varsity quarterback Matthew Viles, after injuries and ailments to Nick Crissman (appendix), Garrett Heckel (sprained ankle) and John Deluca (ankle), led Edison to a 45-0 victory over L.A. Jordan. He was nine of 13 for 166 yards and a touchdown. First time I’ve ever heard of a fourth-string quarterback getting the start, and a 45-point victory to boot!
  • Ray Holley of El Modena rushed seven times for 195 yards and three touchdowns in a 59-0 victory over Saddleback. Seven carries for 195 yards. That’s a 27.8 average a carry. That’s just unfair. Oh, he also had three interceptions.
  • Adam Salinas rushed for 195 yards and a touchdown as Santa Ana beat Century, 26-7. It’s the first win for the Saints’ first-year coach, Scott Daniels.
  • Marcus Meraz passed 72 yards to Patrick Boyle with 2:06 left in the game to give Loara a 21-20 victory over Los Amigos. That’s money.
