It’s a little early for the snowbirds to invade the Coachella Valley, but at least one plane load has already arrived.

Spring Lake Park (Minn.) is scheduled to play at Palm Desert at 7 p.m. Friday. It would be natural to believe the Panthers are mainly here to see if their skin will tan, but they might mean business. Spring Lake Park is ranked second in the state in Division 4-A (which, I believe, is our version of Division II) and has won its first three games by a combined score of 94-17.

But then again, it’s still Minnesota vs. Southern California, something this blogger for the Star-Tribune didn’t forget either. The local scribe, who just might be related to Cliff Claven, predicts a win for Palm Desert. Since he lists his season record for picking high school games at 46-14, I figure he takes his predicting seriously, something I have yet to do.

And if you don’t feel like watching a team you’ve never heard of before, and will never hear of again, there’s a pretty good matchup down the road at La Quinta, which is hosting Colton at 7 p.m. the same evening.
