A week after feeling as if their season was over, Maranatha came back on Saturday and showed it still has a lot of football left to play.

The Minutemen beat Pasadena Poly, 40-19, in their home opener on Saturday. It was also their first game under the new lights installed in the off-season. The margin of victory could have been a bigger had Maranatha (2-1) not had two touchdowns nullified by penalties in the first half.

But the score didn’t matter, it was the way they rebounded from last week , when they lost to St. Margaret’s, 56-14, that did.

Already without their starting QB, their backup QB and their starting running back, the Minutemen were led by running back Robert Sharpe (11 carries for 150 yards and two touchdowns) and their defense.

‘The adjustments were just mental,’ Maranatha Coach Joel Murphy told the PSN. ‘We needed to shake last week’s injuries, which were like losses, and then just gain momentum.’
