The biggest defensive play by an Inland Empire football player last weekend wasn’t delivered at the high school level.

Nick Barnett, the middle linebacker on the Green Bay Packers and a graduate of A.B. Miller High in Fontana, intercepted a pass late in the game against the visiting San Diego Chargers, returning it to the two-yard line, where the Packers punched it in for the game-clinching touchdown in a 31-24 victory.

Barnett, who was a second-team All-Citrus Belt League selection as a senior, experienced quite a memorable off-season, signing a six-year, $35 million contract extension, including $12 million to be paid this year. Two months later, he was arrested for battery for allegedly pushing a young woman in an Appleton, Wisc. nightclub called Club Wet.

Now, my wife made me sit next to her and watch the season premier of The Bachelor last night and one thing stuck in my mind: It doesn’t matter how dull you are, if you have lots of money, chances are you’ll be fighting the women off....especially if you’re in Wisconsin.
