Some Orange County things that jumped out at me in Week 3:

  • Devin Deleon scored four touchdowns and Kane Wilson of El Dorado passed for 254 yards, and also sprinted 73 for a touchdown, in El Dorado’s 36-14 victory over Placentia Valencia. That scoring run was almost twice the yardage of Valencia’s Wes Fletcher, who injured his ankle.
  • Timothy Smith of University scored on a 35-yard run, threw a 35-yard touchdown pass, and returned a punt 51 yards for a touchdown in a 55-14 victory over Woodbridge. If only the punt return had been for 35 yards.
  • J.B. Green returned two interceptions for touchdowns and also caught a 61-yard touchdown pass as Newport Harbor defeated Corona del Mar, 40-7. Newport had five interceptions, and three were returned for scores. Green is only a junior, and he made big plays against highly ranked Long Beach Poly, too.
  • Quarterback Dana Maley rushed eight times for 70 yards and three touchdowns as Ocean View defeated Century, 21-14. Man, talk about efficient.
  • Running back D’Amato Tyson had trouble rushing, but he threw a touchdown pass and returned a punt for a touchdown as Beckman defeated Monrovia, 21-14. The Patriots have won two straight since losing their opener in overtime.
  • Rodrigo Fernandez rushed 15 times for 237 yards and two touchdowns as Segerstrom defeated Laguna Beach, 35-24. After getting its first home victory last week, the Jaguars now own their first winning streak -- ever.
  • DeAngelo Townsell rushed for five touchdowns and also had an interception as Tustin beat Compton Centennial, 35-26. Clutch performance for a team struck by injuries.
  • Parker Finley of Capistrano Valley passed for three touchdowns and ran for another in a 35-14 victory over Northwood. Northwood stacked the line against the run-oriented Cougars, and Finley made them pay, which is what good players do.
