One of the Centennial assistant coaches proposed to his girlfriend in extravagant style before the game and she accepted, from what I’ve heard. I hope he paid as much attention to putting together a game plan because, so far, the Huskies seem out of sync.

They are leading, 17-10, at the half, but have dropped a sure touchdown pass, fumbled on the Clovis West goal line and committed a number of penalties that have slowed drives.

I guess the news could have been worse. Centennial running back Ryan Bass was laid out after a 10-yard run late in the first half and sat on the bench, rolling his neck with a pained look before returning to the field. Bass has 69 yards in 11 carries in the first half but has not scored.

I haven’t mentioned it yet, but there’s two future Pac-10 quarterbacks going head to head here. Matt Scott of Centennial has committed to Arizona and Clovis West quarterback Beau Sweeney has committed to Cal.

With Clovis West’s starting running back Matt Jelmini still sidelined with an ankle injury, Sweeney has had to carry the load and he’s doing an admirable job.

I guess I’m not going to Santiago.
