A memorial service will be held Wednesday for Megan Myers, one week after the Dana Hills freshman collapsed during a cross-country meet. She died about an hour later. She was 14.

The service, at Coast Hills Community Church in Aliso Viejo, is scheduled from 4-6 p.m.

A preliminary autopsy failed to reveal the cause of death. According to the Register’s noteboook, the family has asked that donations be made to a scholarship fund for cross-country runners. Contributions can be sent to the school, 33333 Golden Lantern St., Dana Point, 92629, attention Principal Rob Nye.

Despite the Myers tragedy, the meets went on last week. Esperanza turned in a strong performance both in a Sunset League cluster meet and at the Nike Pre-Nationals in Oregon, where it finished second to Concord Carondelet.
