Long Beach, it seems, is pretty good at football this year.

That’s Long Beach, the city, where Millikan (4-0, 1-0) hosts Jordan (3-1, 0-0) in the Panthers’ league opener Friday, and where perennial Moore League champion Poly (4-1, 1-0) is idle this week after edging Lakewood, 13-6, for its third consecutive victory last week.

The only Long Beach team struggling through the early going is Wilson (1-4, 0-1), which fell to Millikan, 34-12, in its league opener Friday.

It’s just too bad the teams are going to have to beat up on each other through the rest of the regular season.

‘There are a lot of great athletes in our league,’ Poly Coach Raul Lara said. ‘And it’s not just us beating the other teams. They do it to us, too.’
