Another Inland Empire team that’s being ignored by my voting colleagues is Rancho Verde.

The Mustangs just blew out Perris, 46-9, on Thursday night, but therein lies one of the problems. They haven’t played any teams, local or otherwise, that can substantiate their talent. They won’t until visiting Norco for a nonleague game Nov. 2.

Still, the folks who cover high school sports for The Californian recognize what Rancho Verde has to offer, ranking them fourth in Riverside County behind Corona Centennial, Vista Murrieta and Riverside North and ahead of Norco and Chaparral, all of which are ranked in our top 25, except Rancho Verde.

Now that the Mustangs (3-2) have forfeited two games for using an ineligible player, they won’t possess that shiny record that tends to draw attention from pollsters. And I guarantee none of my fellow voters will make the trek to watch Rancho Verde play this season, but then again, you won’t see me at any St. Bonaventure games either.
