The big surprise about Sherman Oaks Notre Dame holding a 17-7 halftime lead on Servite is that the Friars appear uninspired.

It’s a homecoming for Servite Coach Troy Thomas, who played and coached at nearby Encino Crespi, but his team has done very little in the first 24 minutes to show they’re interested in winning the game. The defense isn’t being aggressive, allowing Notre Dame QB Dayne Crist to control the game. He has completed nine of 14 passes for 137 yards. Thaddeus Brown has two touchdowns for the 11th-ranked Knights, whose offensive line has been effective.

Unless the sixth-ranked Friars get a boost of energy and enthusiasm for the second half, they’re about to fall from the unbeaten ranks.
