To paraphrase the ranting of former Arizona Cardinals Coach Dennis Green, ‘You want to crown the Golden Hawks, then crown the Golden Hawks.’

I learned a lot on Thursday. Diamond Ranch proved to be a good team, Los Altos did not impress with its victory and South Hills won again. Did I miss anything? Oh, yes. Glendora.

What happen, Tartan Country? You know what, I understand, really I do. It’s not you. It’s El Dorado. The Golden Hawks are that good.

I was chatting with The Register’s Adam Maya earlier in the week and he was telling me how he felt that ‘El Dorado should be in the Pac-5 Division.’ I scoffed at the suggestion, however...

The Golden Hawks are poised to run away with the Southwest Division, a division that includes some of the best in the SGV: Charter Oak, Los Altos, Diamond Ranch, South Hills. I’ve seen all those teams, except South Hills, and I don’t think any of them could beat El Dorado.

Los Altos should have beaten Western by more -- 35-27 just doesn’t convince me. Western is good, don’t get me wrong, but they play in a smaller division (the Southern Division). And South Hills? The Huskies couldn’t even get by La Habra, so how would they get past the Golden Hawks? I don’t see it.

The only hope is Charter Oak, which lost to El Dorado, 17-6, in the division championship game last year. But many things have to go right (injuries, growth on offense, etc.) for the Chargers to reach that position this season.

Diamond Ranch has played well in losses to powerhouses Edison and Oaks Christian, so the Panthers might be able to handle El Dorado. They certainly match up size-wise, but they need to stay healthy; otherwise, a meeting with the Golden Hawks would be a mismatch.

Tonight/Friday offers some interesting matchups, but none better than the Smudge Pot rivalry game between San Dimas and Bonita. I just hope no girls’ volleyball-style fight in the stands breaks out.

I know Diamond Ranch Coach Roddy Layton will be there, and maybe Bill & Ted will show up in a phone booth with George Carlin. Anyone else coming?
