If I could turn back the clock....

Here’s a few of the games I wish I’d attended Friday night.

Corona defeated Arlington, 25-22, on a 43-yard field goal by Trevor Layne in the waning seconds. If you happened to arrive at Riverside Ramona last night, only to find a dark stadium, that’s because this game was played at Riverside King. Some crook broke into Ramona the night before and stole a bunch of copper wiring, which affected the stadium lighting.

Riverside Notre Dame scored two touchdowns in a span of 1:17 to tie the score late in its nonleague game against visiting Big Bear, but the Bears drove down the field in the final two minutes and won, 34-27, on a one-yard touchdown run by Jesse Ceron with one second remaining.

Arroyo Valley also scored twice in the final minutes to take its first league of the game against host Moreno Valley, but the Vikings didn’t flinch, winning the game, 37-34, on a one-yard quarterback sneak by Sydney Hall with 37 seconds remaining. It was the fourth game for Moreno Valley this season that has been decided on the final possession.

Hey, I would have probably even enjoyed watching Andrew Casey catch a four-yard touchdown pass from Cody Ayon with 50 seconds remaining to give visiting Twentynine Palms an 8-6 victory over Aquinas. If anyone out there can explain why the Wildcats went for a two-point conversion, which they achieved, instead of the point-after, I’d love to know. Are kickers becoming that hard to find?

On that note, Chino Hills did not have an available kicker in its 6-6 tie against visiting Silverado. If the Huskies had, I’m sure they would have sent him (or her) out for a game-winning field goal when they were on the five-yard line with 15 seconds remaining. Instead, they ran the ball and were stuffed.

And, yes, both teams also failed to convert the extra point after their only touchdowns.
