President George Bush has been referred to as ‘W.’

Maybe Gardena Serra’s football team should be, well, ‘WW.’

In a coincidental quirk of accidental alliteration, sophomore receiver Robert Woods and junior running back Carl Winston are listed right next to each other at the top of the Cavaliers’ roster, thanks to their jersey Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.

The two also were front and center on the field in Serra’s impressive 41-7 victory over visiting South Torrance on Friday night as Woods scored twice, Winston had three touchdowns and the Cavaliers rebounded nicely from last week’s 20-13 loss at Redondo.

Winston, featured here, rushed for 188 yards, scoring on runs of 10, 25 and 35 yards, in 17 carries, while Woods had a scoring reception, a touchdown run and, just for good measure, an interception on defense. See a full account of the game in the Daily Breeze.

The efforts of WW helped give the Cavaliers and their quarterback, junor Ted Landers, a triumphant performance against Landers’ former team. Landers transferred to Serra from South Torrance this year.

Like I’m saying here on the worldwide web: Woods, Winston...Win!
