Defending champions: Edison, Esperanza

How it shakes out: Fountain Valley (4-1) appears to have its best team in years, and Newport Harbor (4-1) has shown flashes of brilliance, too. But it still figures to be a three-horse race between Esperanza (5-0), Edison (3-2) and Los Alamitos (4-1).

Although it’s no Trinity League, all six teams -- including Marina (3-2) -- have winning records and nobody is likely to get through league unscathed.
