On the sideline at Santa Margarita vs. Servite, a fellow was mocking the selection of the Hart-Canyon Country Canyon game as the one shown on FSN. It’s a big rivalry game, I thought to myself, and for the Foothill League title. But you know, never speak unless spoken to.

I know one thing: TV got its money’s worth, if accounts of the game from The Times and the Daily News are accurate -- and game stories like that often write themselves.

A guy on a golf scholarship playing his first year of football kicks his first field goal, and a game-winning one at that to essentially determine the league champion with no time remaining ... fantastic!

But here’s what really impressed me: Delano Howell of Hart peeled off a 58-yard run and had the awareness to step out of bounds with a half-second left on the clock, allowing Johnny McArthur to kick that 43-yard field goal for a 31-28 victory over Canyon. That has got to be the head’s-up play of the year.

No wonder he’s going to Stanford.
