Crenshaw may have looked sluggish, even moribund, during its nonleague schedule, but after defeating Dorsey, 46-28, on Friday, the Cougars are exactly where they want to be -- in control of the Coliseum League race.

Yes, the Cougars (3-4, 2-0) have league games left with Jefferson, Manual Arts and Fremont, but none of those should be a problem if they continue to play at the level they’re at right now.

Jefferson is 2-0 in league after beating winless Fremont on Friday, but the Democrats are erratic. Neither Manual Arts, which lost to Locke on Friday, nor Fremont can match the Cougars’ firepower.

Then there is the recent history of the Crenshaw-Dorsey series. Since 2002, the winner of this game, no matter when it was played on the schedule, has gone on to win the league title. It’s hard to believe anything will be different this season.
