The Bulldogs show their fortitude in comeback victory

The e-mail began circulating among a handful of prep staffers late last night.

A fellow sportswriter, Chris Dufresne, who covers college football for The Times, had just watched Ayala score two touchdowns in the final 47 seconds and defeat Damien, 34-33, in one of the wildest comebacks he had ever seen at any level. The article says 27 seconds but I’m going with the guy with the experience.

Between this, the wrong-way runner and the game that had to be moved at halftime, it’s been a strange last couple weeks. I’ll spare you the Halloween joke.

I wrote an item earlier this season on the inspiration the Ayala coaching staff received from Orange Lutheran Coach Jim Kunau, who paid the Bulldogs an off-season visit after their 0-10 season.

Maybe the Ayala coaches should think about returning that pep talk this morning.
