Crenshaw’s quandry

Crenshaw enjoys any victory over neighborhood rival Dorsey. And the Cougars enjoy it more when a win, like last Friday’s 46-28 victory, puts them in charge of the Coliseum League race.

Crenshaw (3-4, 2-0) has to hope, however, that was not the highlight of their 2007 season.

Even if the Cougars win the league outright, they still may not get a choice playoff seed. Birmingham (6-1, 2-0) and Venice (6-1, 2-0), who are carving up the West Valley and Western leagues, respectively, should be the first and second seeds unless they somehow stumble. If Carson (5-2, 2-0) goes through the Marine League unbeaten, that’s number three.

In other years Crenshaw might expect at least the fourth seed, but it’s conceivable the Cougars, whose best overall finish would be 6-4, could drop as low as sixth and have a difficult road to the City championship.

No wonder Coach Robert Garrett had one primary thought about his team after it defeated Dorsey win: ‘We still have to get better.’
