I’m going to go out on a limb here and say there’s not more than a handful of Southern California high school football fans, die-hard or not, that can tell me what school Cierre Wood attends. Here’s a hint, it’s in Ventura County.

Give up? Doesn’t matter, your time is up. Wood goes to Oxnard Santa Clara and it might be wise to make a mental note of that fact, considering the 6-foot, 195 pound junior is regarded as one of the top prospects in the Class of 2009. Don’t believe me? Take a look at his stats on Maxpreps.com for this season and for his sophomore year. That should explain plenty. And if not, Rivals.com and Scout.com each has lots to say about him.

Friday offers the perfect opportunity to catch a glimpse of Wood in action as the Saints (4-1-1 overall), ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Mid-Valley Division coaches’ poll, meet Santa Barbara Bishop Diego (7-1), ranked No. 3 in the same division, in a showdown that will likely determine the Frontier League title.

Beyond that, the future appears limitless for Wood, who’s has offers from Florida, Nebraska, San Diego St. and Wake Forest. Other high-profile programs that have expressed interest include Cal, UCLA and USC.
