Some Orange County things that were worth watching over the weekend:

  • Jai Morris of El Toro carried 17 times for 211 yards and five touchdowns in the Chargers’ 56-20 Sea View League victory over Woodbridge. Chargers have scored 42% of their points in their last two games.
  • Dietrik Laguisan carried 25 times for 195 yards and four touchdowns for Loara in its 47-21 Empire League victory over Katella. He missed the school record for touchdowns by one, but has anyone named Dietrik ever gained so many yards?
  • Kyle Essington of Brea Olinda passed for 172 yards and a touchdown, and ran for another, in a 33-20 Century League upset of El Modena. This one dulled the luster of the El Dorado-El Modena game next week.
  • Marc Edwards ran for 204 yards and two touchdowns for Whittier Christian in its 21-0 Alpha League victory over Downey Calvary Chapel. That’s back-to- back 200-yard games for Edwards.
  • Sean Young scored twice in the first three minutes, on a 22-yard run and a 35-yard interception return, for Garden Grove in its 47-22 Garden Grove League victory over Los Amigos. Now that’s the way to announce yourself.
  • Francisco Partida rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns for Segerstrom in its 35-14 Golden West League victory over Ocean View. The Jaguars need a repeat performance next week to have any chance against the league’s remaining unbeaten team, Westminster.
  • Stephen Jones of carried 13 times for 195 yards and two touchdowns as Savanna knocked Anaheim from the ranks of the unbeaten, 35-21, in an Orange League game. Jones is averaging 10 yards a carry, and the Rebels have two guys averaging even more.
