The Tustin Unified School District canceled outdoor practices on Tuesday because of the Santiago Canyon fire, but allowed for participation in athletic contests subject to local conditions. Although the curtail of outdoor activities will be in effect indefinitely, there has been no determination yet as to the fate of football games scheduled for the weekend.

However, if Tustin is unable to host Anaheim Canyon on Thursday in football, the Empire League game will be played Saturday night. If Beckman is unable to host Cerritos in its nonleague game, it will play Saturday afternoon. ‘And if we can’t play Saturday, I don’t know what we’ll do,’ said Tustin Coach Myron Miller, pictured left.

Miller said there were occasions Tuesday when there were blue skies ‘and not a breath of smoke, and other times when the smoke was blowing straight across the school. It really depends on the wind. When I left at 6:30 [Tuesday] it was pretty bad. We’ll probably make a decision Thursday at lunch time.’

The Tillers had only been doing walk-throughs this week. ‘It will be one of those things you live through and do the best you can,’ Miller said. ‘They’ll be well-rested, because they’re sure not getting any work.’
