Whew ... You can bet Compton senior running back Donald Green is relieved the Tarbabes came away with a 34-28 victory in a Moore League game Friday night at Millikan.

Green fumbled the ball away to the Rams at the Compton 30-yard line with 2:17 to play, then prayed the rest of the game.

‘I just gotta thank the Lord for this one,’ he said afterward.

Actually, there was no divine intervention, just a disputed goal-line call by officials.

With Millikan (5-3, 2-3) trailing by the final margin on a third-and-three play with 35 seconds left, junior running back Jeremy Brooks was tackled at the goal line but fumbled after getting stripped of the ball.

Millikan coaches and players believed that Brooks had already crossed the goal line for a tying touchdown, or else was already down when the ball came loose.

Compton (8-0, 4-0) was given possession, however, and the Tarbabes ran out the final seconds to escape with the victory.
