Gotta give props to El Modena for making its Century League game against El Dorado closer than I expected. El Dorado won, 38-20, much better than my 35-14 prediction, though I don’t think it was as close as it was -- if you know what I mean. I think it got close mostly because El Dorado got bored. But you know what they say -- gotta play 48 minutes, even when you do know the game is over after 24.

Kane Wilson, the El Dorado quarterback had another big night, four, five TDs, whatever. I like him, and he’s just a junior. He also runs pretty well.

I’m starting to believe in the Golden Hawks, even though I’m not impressed by their schedule. They play defense -- proved that in that 16-3 loss to Esperanza -- and now they’re proving they can score. Wilson was pretty pumped last week when they decided to open up the offense against Canyon. And now they’ve done it against El Modena. Those were the two teams that were supposed to challenge ED for the Century title. No contest. Golden Hawks are the league champion even though there’s two to play.

It was a good night for Tustin, too, which is next on El Dorado’s schedule. The Tillers upset Canyon, 35-27. The game was tied, 21-21, in the third quarter. I like Myron Miller. He tells it like it is, and doesn’t go off the record nearly as much as other coaches. Word is that Tustin’s going to be pretty good next year, and really good in two years. This year, not so much: Miller thought making the playoffs would be a good deal for his team. But right now the Tillers are 2-1 with a win over Canyon. I like their chances because Canyon and El Modena now have two losses apiece and still have to play each other in the season finale.

Here’s a look at Queen’s 1985 Live Aid performance of ‘We Are the Champions,’ which I’ve heard gets a lot of play at athletic events.
