Norco vs. Rancho Verde has a “nice” ring to it

After getting my ears blown out at the drag races in Pomona earlier today, I’m here at Norco High getting ready to watch the Cougars host Rancho Verde in a nonleague game.

Good thing the speaker system here sounds like it’s from the 70s. ‘Crazy Train’ is trying to blare from the loudspeakers, but I mainly hear static and a ringing sound. Since we’re at Norco, maybe they should call this song ‘Crazy Wagon Train.’

Now they’re playing country music. Only in Norco!

I spoke with Norco Coach Todd Gerhart and he said running back Joshua Nakamoto won’t be available tonight, but he expects to have him back for next week’s Mountain View League showdown with Corona Centennial. Nakamoto has been out since dislocating his ankle on the second offensive play of the season.

Both of these teams played on Monday night, leaving them with a short week to prepare for this game.
Gerhart said the Cougars had a great practice Wednesday, the only day they went full contact this week.
‘I bet if they could play every Monday and Friday night, they’d do it,’ Gerhart said of his players.

What? High school kids would rather play a game than practice?
Unbelievable.
