Narbonne Coach Manuel Douglas has no problem with Birmingham being awarded the top seed Saturday for the upcoming City championship playoffs (unless Taft can pull off an upset on Friday).

But, Douglas said, the next two seeds should go to Marine League teams, whether Carson wins the league outright or there is a three-way tie for the championship.

‘If Carson beats Banning, they should be the second seed. And if we finish second in league, we will argue to be seeded third,’ Douglas said Monday. ‘If there is a tie, whoever is the second-place team should be the third seed.

‘We were the toughest league, top to bottom, in the City this year. No one else is close. We should have two of the top three seeds.’

When it was suggested that Venice (if it doesn’t lose to Fairfax on Friday) might want to claim a second or third seed, Douglas replied, ‘Venice should be the fourth seed because it lost to Banning. And Banning could wind up being the third-place team in our league.’

I’m not sure Venice will agree, but Douglas is entitled to his opinion.
