Pardon Carson Coach Michael Christensen for feeling selfish, but he hopes the Colts, including defensive back Steven Boyd, pictured left, won’t have to share the Marine League championship with anybody this season.
‘Last year, we were tied with San Pedro and Narbonne and wound up third,’ Christensen said. ‘I’m not good at coin flips.’
To get the outright championship and a potential second seed in the upcoming City playoffs, Carson (7-2,4-0) will have to defeat archrival Banning (8-1,3-1) Thursday night at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach.
‘Their talent level is significantly better than last year,’ Christensen said of the Pilots. ‘A lot of their first-year miscues [under Coach Chris Ferragamo] have been eliminated. They make you beat them instead of beating themselves with mistakes.’
