The gates to Angel Stadium haven’t opened yet, but we got the backstage pass and this place is ready to explode. Prep-Master E (that’s Eric Sondheimer’s given Hip Hop name) tells me that 24,000 tickets have already been sold for tonight’s game between #3 Mater Dei and #6 Servite. The kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

I’m up here in the press box, but I’ll be on the field and in the stands for most of the game. And it’s a good thing, the view from the press box is not that great. The Monarchs are already on the field. Servite just arrive and they went down to the clubhouse through the visitors’ dugout.

At stake is the Trinity league title. Sort of. If Servite wins, the Friars win the title outright (plus ends a winless streak against Mater Dei that started last century). If Mater Dei wins, then the Monarchs clinch a share of the title. The title could be split between three teams if #Orange Lutheran, which lost to Servite earlier in the year, beats JSerra tonight.

Enjoy the game, and enjoy the coverage, everybody.
